Ignite is Tonight!

It is tonight, at 7pm, at Blau Auditorium in the Ross School of Business. If you have already registered at igniteannarbor.eventbrite.com, that’s great. We have 560 people registered, and registration is open until 3pm. If you haven’t registered, that’s also ok! We take walkups, and have so far never turned anyone away. We also secured a classroom right beside Blau with CCTV as an overflow, which would still allow you to mingle at half-time and feel the buzz of the event! Come on out to Ross tonight and we will have a great night!

Follow us at @ignitea2 for updates. Hashtags for tonight are #ignitea2, and for Global Ignite Week: #GIW

Below is a map of some parking options. Don’t forget to allocate time for finding parking, if the free Hill St lot fills up, as it did last time, you might have to walk a short distance.

Ignite 5 Program

The preliminary Ignite 5 Program is now available!

Ignite 5 will be held February 9th at 7pm during Global Ignite Week at Blau Auditorium. Register now!

We had 34 great submissions and it was *very* difficult putting the program together. Talks are selected by the Ignite organizers with the goal of creating a diverse, but balanced program of talks of general interest to the community that can complement each other.

Some former Ignite speakers have applied multiple times with multiple ideas before finding the right fit amongst a cohort of serendipitously complementary talks, and we rely on people in the community stepping up to the mic and telling us about their passions. If you’re interested, don’t hesitate to apply for the next Ignite!

Ignite 5 Call for Speakers

What better time is there than a new year for committing to do an awesome 5 minute talk at Ann Arbor’s premier event for 5 minute talks? Ignite 5 will be February 9th at Blau Auditorium, and we are open for talk submissions NOW!

The Ignite format gives you 5 minutes and 20 slides that advance every 15 seconds automatically. It’s a format with constraints, but we believe constraints breed creativity. You have until January 17th to make your submission, but don’t delay; seize the moment!

Ignites are held worldwide and Ignite Ann Arbor 5 will be part of Global Ignite Week, a week of Ignite events held in over 50 cities. This will be the 5th Ignite held in Ann Arbor; 58 speakers have spoken before over 1300 audience members at the previous four events.

Give us your info to be considered!

And thanks to Jim Deakins for taking some great photos, will post a link shortly.

We Love Data

Here is the attendee data from Eventbrite.

It’s interesting to note that only 268 of the 500 RSVPs are from Ann Arbor proper. We’re considering doing away with RSVPs entirely for next time. Because it’s a free event, the attrition rate is pretty high, there are a lot of no-shows, and twitter is awash with people saying they wished they could come but couldn’t get a ticket. We always try to make it clear that walk-ups will get in, but it seems there are still a lot of people who stay home because they didn’t get on the RSVP list. Therefore, we might just seat on a first-come first-served basis next time. Comments welcome.

Ignite is Tonight

If you haven’t RSVPed, you can still come and get on the wait list. We usually have some no-shows, and at 6:50 we will open up remaining spots to the waitlist. Directions are here: http://igniteannarbor.eventbrite.com You can park in the Hill St. parking structure.
